So we experience healing, community, love, things like our grandparents’ Christmases, etc. – all the numinous and wonderful stuff that has great healing power and wholesomeness far beyond the simple explanations. As we mature, we go looking for adequate, satisfying, resonating realities: community, justice, peace, but not only that. As Paul said, the greatest of these is love. But not only that either. There seems to be something living, some personhood, an “intelligence” of love, if you will. Not fixing everything but still “there”. That invisible that we sense, intuit, and without which no explanation feels complete. That is one way to describe the experience of the Holy Spirit.
